Why Scottie Scheffler winning PGA Tour’s Player of the Year over LIV defector Jon Rahm isn’t controversial

That self-imposed Dec. 31 deadline has passed, and there is still a divide between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Naturally, that helped fuel plenty of talk this week when Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year award over third-ranked Jon Rahm.

The Spaniard shocked the golf world this fall when he defected to LIV after being one of the Saudi-backed circuit’s most vocal detractors. Now, just a couple of months later, he has been topped by Scheffler for the Tour’s top honor despite having more wins on the 2023 season.

But those obsessed with the drama between the feuding golf leagues shouldn’t be giving this one too much thought. As it turns out, there isn’t as much controversy in Scheffler winning POY over Rahm as you might think.
