As Tiger Woods gets older, he has become more involved in golf course design projects.
To date, the 15-time major champion has designed nearly a dozen golf courses, with four of them now open for play. One of them, El Cardonal at Diamante, recently hosted the World Wide Technologies Championship, the first PGA Tour event held on a Woods-designed course.
But Woods currently has multiple projects in the works, one of them in conjunction with Mike Trout in South Jersey.
Another one happens to be in Utah, which is where Tony Finau hails from. And on Wednesday, Tiger Woods took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a hype video about Marcella Golf Club, the private club that will be located in Park City, Utah.
Indeed, this video will hype Finau up.
But it should get golf fans excited, too.
The Marcella Club will be set in the mountains, offering incredible views of the Uinta Mountain Range. Of course, Park City, Utah, is known for its ski resorts, but hopefully, Woods’ most recent design will make the winter resort town a popular destination for golf, too.
The course itself will be massive, with its length extending beyond 8,000 yards from the back tees.
Yet, since Park City sits almost 7,000 feet above sea level, the golf ball will travel much farther thanks to the thinner air at that elevation.
Thus, the 8,000-yard distance on the scorecard is not as long as it initially appears.
“The cornerstone of the Marcella Club will be the first mountain course design for Tiger and TGR Design,” Woods’ TGR website reads.
“The course has been routed to take advantage of the incredible long-range vistas while also incorporating contrasting intimate valleys between the ridges to create a truly unique and memorable golf experience. The course will provide a stern test for low-handicap golfers and present a fun, family-friendly experience to allow individuals of all skill levels to come together and enjoy the course.”
Woods may not be playing as often as he used to, but that does not mean his contributions to golf are diminishing overall.
He has an insatiable passion for the game, which is evident in his addition to joining the PGA Tour Policy Board. But he also has an imaginative eye and enjoys designing golf courses, much like his idol Jack Nicklaus.
When Marcella Club will open remains to be seen, but as Woods alluded to in his post, the first development phase is underway. The course will likely be ready for play within a couple of years.
